Thinking about joining an Episcopal church?
Welcome
– there’s always room for more and we would love for you to find a church home at St. Luke’s!
Some members of St. Luke’s are 'cradle'
Episcopalians. That means they have been members of an Episcopal Church since their baptism as infants. Others
have come from other faith traditions or have been baptized at St. Luke’s as adults. The reasons we are drawn
to St. Luke’s are many. The reasons we join can be just as varied. The urge to join a community
of faith is often a subtle, but powerful thing.
There is
in each of us an inner need to serve others, to be part of something bigger than ourselves and to grow deeper
in our relationship with the ultimate source of life we sense is greater than we are. As Christians, we proclaim that the
ultimate source of all life is God, revealed most fully in and through Jesus Christ, who still lives and breathes
in us through the Holy Spirit.
Joining
a church family allows us to serve and grow in our relationships with each other through Christ. By joining together,
we can support the others gathered into this local body of Christ. The church community allows us to go
out into the mission field empowered and uplifted and able to do things more effectively than we could as individuals.
We also desire the fellowship that community brings since it helps us explore, deepen and move forward in our faith.
Joining St. Luke's Church does have a formal,
yet straightforward aspect to it. But even before becoming a member—of St. Luke’s or any other
Episcopal church—you are free to receive communion if you are a baptized Christian.
-If you
are currently a member of another Episcopal church and you wish to become a member of St. Luke’s Church, you can
request a transfer of your membership from your current church to St. Luke’s. This is done with a Letter of Transfer
which we will fill out for your signature in the church office.
-If you
are not currently a member of another Episcopal church, but you have been baptized in another Christian tradition, all you
have to do is let Father Dewey know that you desire to join St. Luke's. If you want to do something more formal,
you can be "received" into the Episcopal Church.
-If you
have not already been baptized into another Christian tradition, you can join St. Luke's through baptism.
If you are interested in transferring your membership,
being "received" into the Episcopal Church, or Holy Baptism, please call Father Dewey at (201) 384-0706 or (201) 384-0653
and arrange a time to talk in person.
We would love to have you come and join us as we
celebrate, explore, serve others and reach out to the world around us in Christ’s name at St. Luke’s Episcopal
Church. Hope to see you soon.
