Worship Services

Worship is the single most important act of human existence. Worship means "worth." We worship whatever has ultimate worth and value in our lives.

True worship is not measured by style, location, or methodology. True worship happens when Spirit touches spirit. When God's Spirit touches human spirit, people become aware of the reality of God's presence and they recommit themselves to live lifestyles of Godly integrity. Priorities are realigned. Ultimate values are clarified and reaffirmed. The answers to life's basic questions-Where did we come from? Why are we here? Where are we going?-are brought to a fully conscious level in our thinking. Worship is a movement from illusion to reality. We are reminded that there is a God and that we are not God. We cannot live by bread alone- but must depend upon every word that comes from God's mouth. Every moment of life is a gift from God's hand, and we can only find fulfillment as we live each moment in God's hand. Spirit (presence) and Truth (Integrity) are what we gather to remember each week.

Reality check. True worship shakes our world view and reminds us of the radical, counter-culture values of the Kingdom of God. We are reminded that the core of life is not matter but Spirit.

Faith and focus. Effective worship brings us to that "ah ha!" moment. Worship restores the "wow" factor in our lives. This is what life is all about! It's not running the rat race at an ever-increasing pace or owning a bigger house or more expensive car; wearing designer clothes or retiring at age fifty. Life is found in Jesus Christ ...It's about living God's purpose. . . serving people. . . and keeping my promises.

Oh how easy it is to forget these truths during the drop-dead deadlines of the work week, family time demands, and ever increasing economic challenges of life after the dawn of a new millennium.

When God's Spirit touches my spirit, I am reminded that success does not necessarily equal wholeness. True worship is Spirit touching spirit. Worship happens when the presence of God is bridged with people's real life needs in a real life context.

Midweek Centering Prayer Service Wednesday 6:30 PM

Centering Prayer is a method of refining our intuitive faculties so that we can enter more into contemplative prayer. It is based on a form of monastic spirituality. It is a journey into the unknown, a call to follow Jesus out of all structures, security blankets, and even spiritual practices that we use to prop ourselves up. The time of centering prayer is a time to let go of all thoughts, even the best of thoughts. It is a time to let God alone speak to you and to be alone with God, to be quiet before God. The purpose of this time together is not more prayer or more silence, but the integration of prayer and silence together. The prayer time based on the ideas and principles developed by Fr. Thomas Keating.
